Three and four generational groups and families who symbolize how an active lifestyle can warm your heart physically and emotionally, kicked off the spirit of the Games by carrying the torch flame in a ceremonial relay Wednesday afternoon at the University of Lethbridge indoor track.
Mayor Chris Spearman started the ceremony with the lighting of the torch from the cauldron and circled the track with his family. Families of all shapes and sizes followed and their favourite activities ranged from bowling to skiing to hiking in the coulees. Please join us in celebrating our official torch bearers byreading their bios.
Wednesday’s torch bearers will honoured at the cauldron lighting ceremony at the Games Opening Ceremony on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at ENMAX Centre. Special guest cauldron lighters include George Gemer, national track and field coach; Jim Staecy, two-time Olympian and Taylor McDonald, World Junior Champion curler. Admission is free to the opening ceremonies.
